This kitchen is in a transitional Wellington villa on the Highbury sky-line. The interior was substantially altered to form a large open plan living- dining- kitchen space with expansive harbour views to the north. The kitchen opens to a southern courtyard. The clients requested a contemporary design which would contrast with the classical villa features. They also were keen to introduce bright orange to the décor.
The galley kitchen is separated from the dining space by a custom-designed shelving unit with a granite slab top. Stainless steel benches suit the complementary look. The joinery design experiments with introducing colour by using durable translucent acrylic on the drawer fronts. The bright orange panels could be easily replaced, if desired, by a future homeowner. The wooden drawers are lined with washable and environmentally friendly Marmoleum.
For pantry storage, a nearby cupboard was fitted out with simple wooden shelving and a Marmoleum finished bench.
